I currently own a Canon Powershot SD400.

This model is no longer available, but I recommend any of the canon SD line.  I buy my cameras from B&H Photo and use Steve's Digicams to find reviews.  I also recommend buy a camera on a credit card that offers some buy protection, i.e. American Expresss gives 90 day theft and accident replacement and double the warranty.

My father just recently purchased a digital camera.  He ended up getting the Canon SD1000.  He didn't ask for my recommendation, just purchased one the spur of the moment.  He has this to say, " I used it when we were in Williamsburg and found it to be the best of all the camera's I've used; extremely light, and takes great shots."

I too own a Canon Powershot and love it - mine was around $200 when I first bought it at Best Buy a couple years ago.  It has worked great and I absolutely love it!

I own a Canon Rebel XT- purchased new on eBay with lots of accessories for about $1100 (about eight months ago).  This is certainly an expensive camera, but I like the advanced features it offers.  Great for "professional" type photography.
